Hi all! Hope your week is going well! Mine is flying by!

Probably because of the weird things that have been happening this week. Monday was a normal work day, but Tuesday I left work early because we were having some plumbing problems. One of our pipes froze and caused water from the shower and the washing machine to back up. It wasn’t as bad as we thought, just had to dry out the carpet in the basement with some fans. Phew, no major issues!

Then yesterday my co-worker and I went to a school to talk to students about working in a veterinary clinic, interviewing, having an externship, etc. I was a little nervous at first, but I really enjoyed myself!

I will be going into work this evening, but I just wanted to put up a post with some new things that I have been enjoying!

The Pittsburgh Skyline will never get old, even when it is overcast–I can’t get enough!

It must be a “Burgh Thing”

I can’t remember where I saw that little gem, but I love it! I don’t speak too much “Pittsburghese” but there are some terms that I say every now and then.

Santa brought me an Apple TV, and I love being able to access Netflix in my room. Perfect for lazy days!

My Mom and I went out to dinner the other night (Hibachi!) and I tried gelato for the first time, it was pretty good, but definitely could get addicting, I will be saving this for special occasions. I tried the mint chocolate chip and reese’s mix…

I have been making an effort to start doing more yoga, and the other night it was so nice to just turn on OnDemand and get my “om” on! The flowers and candle are definitely a nice add on. The quote on the plate says “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain”. Love it!

I also got a new balance ball, since Garrett thought my old one was a squeak toy (RIP). and tried these two workouts from Self! My abs were burning so much during that work out! Phew!

If you haven’t tried Dr. Weil’s Kale Salad yet–you must! It is so good, and it keeps well in the fridge! I make a big batch and the flavor gets better every day!

What new (or old) things have you been loving lately?

Any new workouts you have found?

Until next time…

Sorry that I am so late to the party! I had a post scheduled to go up, but I guess WordPress decided that I didn’t need it!

A lot of you may know, but I was lucky enough to have spent the weekend in Boston at the Healthy Living Summit! This was my second year going, and I had just as much fun meeting new friends and old and learning some fun things along the way!

I arrived in Boston early Friday morning–the whole travel day was incredibly easy! I arrived at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, which had a really cool look to it both inside and out. I  figured it was so early in the morning, but they would let me leave my bag somewhere until check in. The front desk was so helpful and a room was ready at 9 am!

By that point, I was starving–and lucky for me, Meghann was getting some breakfast in the hotel at the same time. We ordered our food to go and hung out in her suite before the craziness began! I went with the caramelized onion and mushroom omelet which also came with potatoes and cranberry pecan bread:

It was really good, and it kept me full for hours. After breakfast Meghann had to go get things ready–she is the rockstar who was in charge of planning the event! I went back up to my room to relax a little but and freshen up before getting started with the day.

Around lunch time a group of us walked about a mile to Whole Foods to grab some lunch and mingle. Let me tell you that this WF didn’t mess around–there was an escalator heading into the store!

I got a pretty small salad and some hummus to enjoy because I was still not hungry from breakfast!

But I did have some great company:

Me, Min, Lisa, and Katie!

After lunch, Emma from whole foods talked to us about natural beauty products and the importance of putting healthy, whole ingredients on our face every day. Makes total sense, right!? They also gave us some free samples to try out at home, can’t wait to use some!

We headed back to the hotel and got checked in, and got our SWAG! Our sponsors were so awesome and gave us lots of things to try out, including some new kicks form REEBOK!

Check out all that loot!! And it was like they knew that my favorite color was purple! Thank you so much to our sponsors, again!

Later that evening we had a cocktail party, which only would be having light food–so a few of us grabbed some dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, I rolled with the New England Clam Chowder and a side salad!

It hit the spot! We all got ready and had a glass of wine before heading down to the party. It was a great time and we all got to mingle and shake our booties!

Sara, Katie, me, and Alaina

They had some great desserts including some mini whoopee pies and a popcorn/chocolate bar…genius!

Sadly, I didn’t take too many pictures because it was pretty dark and I was busy mingling, but you get the idea!

I will be back later with more on the Summit–day 2!

…to the best smoothie I have had in a long time…

The secret weapon:

CoCo Bananas peanut butter!

And it was so easy…

  • 3/4 C. of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 glass full of ice
  • 1 banana
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of CoCo Bananas PNB
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use SunWarrior!)
  • 1/2 teaspoon on vanilla flavoring
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

Add all ingredients to the blender, and blend until smooth.

Believe me, you need to try this. It’s OK–you can thank me later.

To go with my smoothie, I also made a breakfast sandwich complete with egg, turkey, and cheese on a whole wheat bagel thin. I’m not gonna lie–it hit the spot. Breakfast was on point this morning.

Have you had anything that really hit the spot for you lately? Please share!

I am off to go get some errands done and enjoy my day off, have a good one!

Good morning! Happy summer solstice! How are you enjoying the longest day of the year?

I decided that I need to start mine with a summer-y breakfast. And a blueberry-peach smoothie sounded like it would hit the spot.

The players:

I kept it pretty simple with this one.

Just add about 3/4 C. plain almond milk, 1 container  of Chobani Vanilla (I choose Chobani because it gives my smoothies the best texture!), About 1/2 C.-3/4 C. each of frozen organic peaches and blueberries.

Blend, blend, blend!

While I enjoy green monsters, I love when my smoothies come out a pretty color! 😉

And since I didn’t add any protein powder with this smoothies, I made up some scrambled eggs. But I didn’t stop there…behold the return…

…of the NOOCH! Don’t know what nooch (Nutritional Yeast) is? Check out this post!

And just to throw a little randomness into this post, do you ever wake up with a song stuck in your head? Today was one of those days. And of all songs–this is what my brain chose for the soundtrack:

Pretty random.

Well I am off to go start the very beginning stages of putting together my home office…halp! 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

Tell me, what is your favorite smoothie? Have a recipe? Link to it in the comments!

Haha, that is a mouthful! 🙂

The awesome people over at PBCrave were kind enough to send me some samples of their products to try and share my thoughts with you! I couldn’t wait to try it as soon as the mail came! 🙂

First up, I decided to make Buckeye cookies! Who doesn’t love peanut butter and chocolate in cookie/candy form?! The only thing to make it better:

Cookie Nookie! From the PBCrave website: “A mouth-watering mix of chocolate chips, cookie dough flavor, wild honey and premium peanut butter — it’s two classics together as one.”    Umm. Yes, please! 🙂

Making the buckeyes was pretty easy–we usually only make them at Christmastime–but this was a special occasion:

  • 1/2 cup Cookie Nookie peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

First mix the peanut butter, butter, and powdered sugar in a bowl. It’s all in the wrist, kids! The dough will be dry and crumbly–this is normal!

The roll the dough into 1″ balls and place on a cookie sheet. I used parchment paper for easy clean-up! The place a toothpick in each ball:

I got 21 cookies out of this–but if I would have measured better, and not done some sampling–I would have had 24! 🙂

Then just put this in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes.

After the mixture has had time to harden put the chocolate chips in a double boiler, or I’m sure you could microwave them a little at a time.  Take each ball and roll in the melted chocolate, but make sure to leave some of the PB showing at the top to give it the “buckeye” appearance!

Then I took out the toothpicks and placed them back in the freezer until the chocolate hardened. I’m glad I made a small batch of these because they are so sweet, I can only enjoy one at a time!

But the cookie dough flavor is fantastic!

I also had some of the Razzle Dazzle flavor on top of a waffle for breakfast today…uh.maz.ing. I will let you know how I feel about the other flavors as I try them!

And in honor of PB&J day yesterday…they are offing free shipping for the next couple of days with promo code “NPBJELLY”!! Follow @PBCRAVE on twitter for more promos!

Disclaimer: PBCrave sent me these products to try for free, however the opinions are my own. If you have questions please look here. 🙂

And if you are a fan of Justin Bieber’s new song please check out Josh Herbert:

This sounds amazing, and he is from my hometown! I’m a fan. And apparently a 16 year old girl. 😉

Happy Tuesday! xoxo.

Bakery Heaven!

Morning loves!

So last night my friend Megan and I went to a new to us bakery for some coffee and chatting! We usually end up at Starbucks, so we wanted to switch things up. And I am SO glad that we did. Because let me just tell you about this place, actually…let me show you:

There were 3 cases worth of sweets to choose from.  Megan chose to go with a red velvet cupcake:

And I rolled with a chocolate chip scone:

It was the size of my face.

And I also got the coffee special–which was a cinnamon bun latte. HOLY YUM!

We of course spent the evening laughing and chatting about random things! Always good to spend time with friends to relax after working.

Well I am off to finish packing for Philadelphia! I get to spend the whole weekend with my Big! Excited to have her show me around her town and venture to NYC!

Hope you have a good day!

Pure Hydration!

Hey everyone!

Long time, no talk. Sorry for my absence, but life has been pretty hectic!

First there was Thanksgiving…and thennnn lots of studying!!! But good news: I passed my boards! I am now a Certified Veterinary Technician! Woohoo!

I have a couple of recipes I want to share with you and a couple of fun places to eat in Pittsburgh (I stopped a new place when my college roomie came up for a visit this week)…but first I wanted to post about something very important!

Staying hydrated!!

We all think a lot about this in the summer time, but now that it is getting colder out–sometimes we forget to drink enough water!

The folks at Crystal Light were kind enough to send me some samples of a newer product called Crystal Light Pure.

“To give you some background on Crystal Light Pure, it’s naturally sweetened with sugar and Truvia, a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the stevia plant. It also has no artificial flavors or preservatives. Two flavors—Grape and Strawberry Kiwi—also have electrolytes.” ~from Crystal Light

I was pretty excited about trying it–because let’s face it–I don’t drink enough water during the day! I loved the Grape and Strawberry-Kiwi flavors, but the Mixed Berry was not my favorite!

The instructions are to add 50 a 16.9 oz bottle of water, but that was too sweet for me–so I just added it to my 32 oz Nalgene bottle with some ice! Each packet has about 30 calories, and is gluten free. 🙂 I definitely reccomend trying these if you like some flavor to your water.

And a little extra:

Hydration Tips from Crystal Light Pure Spokesperson Molly Kimball, RD

1.       Keep a Tally

We can’t actually tell how well we’re hydrated by how thirsty we feel. For many of us, by the time we start to feel thirsty, we’re already dehydrated, but just how much water is enough when it comes to staying hydrated? Keep a running tally of how much fluid you’re getting and aim for half of your body weight in ounces of fluid per day, plus an extra 16 ounces for every pound of sweat lost during exercise or work in the heat.

2.       Flavor Up to Drink Up

Want to drink water to stay hydrated, but hate the boring taste? Add the flavor you want and none of what you don’t by sipping on naturally sweetened Crystal Light Pure. It’s got no artificial sweeteners, flavors, or preservatives and is sweetened with sugar and Truvia, a natural sweetener derived from the stevia plant. It’ll give your water light, refreshing flavor with just 15 calories and 4 grams of sugar per serving. And the Grape and Strawberry Kiwi flavors have the added bonus of electrolytes!

3.       Don’t Forget about Food

Staying well-hydrated is essential for maintaining optimal energy levels, preventing muscle cramping and headaches, and more serious issues like heatstroke. But that doesn’t mean you have to force down gallons of water or bottles of sugary sports drinks. Any type of alcohol-free beverage can count toward your fluid intake – and even some foods! Some of the top electrolyte-rich, hydrating foods include all types of fresh fruit, soups like gazpacho and Greek yogurt.

4.       Watch the Caffeine

For years, the widely-held belief was that caffeinated beverages were dehydrating. An abundance of research has proven otherwise, however. The amount of caffeine typically found in standard servings of tea, coffee, and soft drinks appears to have no diuretic effect, meaning that these beverages don’t cause us to lose more fluid than they provide. But remember that you don’t want the majority of your fluids to come from caffeinated drinks since most health organizations recommend we limit our caffeine intake. Instead, try to vary what you’re drinking.

Well there you have it! I still enjoy getting my hydration from plain ol’ H2O, but sometimes you may need a little kick! If you have any questions about my post please read my policies.

Have a great night!
